Education
Community
Oriel Myrddin Gallery strives to engage with as much of the local community as possible. For school age children we provide regular art classes during term time as well as focused workshops and activities during the holidays. For adults we provide specialised masterclasses and run regular workshops in local care homes. We have enjoyed great success working in partnership with other organisations such as Dr M’z, a Carmarthen based youth club and Carmarthenshire Museums on the Tywi Gateway project.
We particularly enjoy working outdoors, especially in the warmer Summer months when you can join us offsite where we utilise the beautiful surroundings of our Welsh landscapes. During the latter half of 2020, we launched our Oak project Atgofio Derw, a community wide tree planting project to remember those that have passed away from Covid-19. We are very pleased to have collaborated with poet Mererid Hopwood and orchestral group, Ensemble Cymru. Together we have created Lost Sounds, a Welsh language series of podcasts exploring the sounds and atmospheres of nature.
In response to important current affairs, Oriel Myrddin Gallery are proud to to have been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for Hoelion Wyth Cymdaithas // Pillars of Society. A socially engaged project in partnership with Carmarthen School of Art looking at and reviewing Carmarthen's statues and monuments as well as our own Welsh identity and colonial history.
Schools & Colleges
Oriel Myrddin Gallery offers an exciting education package including guided visits around our exhibition space for schools and colleges, an introduction to the exhibition and its context, as well as the background of the artist. Time is also scheduled towards the end of the session to allow students to put forward their questions and are encouraged to engage in a healthy critique of the work.
We also have an ever-changing workshop offer available in the studio space within the gallery, or workshops can be brought out to your school or college.
Schools can also request a bespoke workshop to help engage students with a particular topic.
