CRAFT Festival Craft Trail
30.08.24 – 20.09.24
This September 2024, OM is teaming up with Gŵyl Crefft Cymru // Craft Festival Wales. Together, we’ve partnered with venues throughout the town of Cardigan to curate a contemporary craft trail that will showcase new work from six talented makers, each invited to respond to artworks from the National Contemporary Art Gallery of Wales. The commissioned work encompasses a diverse array of artistic mediums, including ceramics, textiles, brush making, and willow weaving, to reinterpret eminent artworks from the national collections.
CRAFT Festival Wales
Cardigan Castle 06.09.2024 – 08.09.2024
Alongside a band of enthusiastic partners, CRAFT Festival Wales brings the rural community of Cardigan together for a celebration of making. For 20 years, Craft Festival has been nurturing talent, commissioning new work, and encouraging engagement with craft from a wide range of people. During the festival, the public can watch demonstrations, join engaging conversations, learn new skills, and experience the finest craftsmanship in a live setting at Cardigan Castle, with pop-up events hosted across the town. National Contemporary
Art Gallery of Wales
The national collections of contemporary art held by National Museum Wales and the National Library of Wales belong to everyone in Wales. The aim of this new initiative is to improve the public's access to and awareness of the national collections of contemporary art, as supported by the Welsh Government. OM, along with other visual organisation partners, will seek to utilise and promote the contemporary collections through loaning and embedding into original exhibitions. A huge digitisation project is currently underway to improve people’s access worldwide. More info on this initiative along with collections digitised so far, can be found at Celf ar y Cyd.
Visit to National Museum Wales, Cardiff
Our journey began with an inspiring visit to National Museum, Cardiff, where our six makers were treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. Guided by Andrew Renton, Head of Design Collections, they delved into the contemporary collections, drawing inspiration from an in-depth exploration of the museum’s treasures. This unique opportunity allowed them to uncover the nuances and history behind each piece, enriching their understanding and creative process.
