With Christmas feasting on our minds here at Oriel Myrddin Gallery, this week we’ll be featuring beautiful domestic ware from six exceptional makers who are part of our Makers Market 2017.

Silvia K Ceramics; Rachael Cocker; Astrid de Groot; James Burnett-Stuart; Peter Bodenham; James and Tilla Waters.

We’re really pleased to welcome back Peter Bodenham to exhibit in our winter exhibition this year.

Peter Bodenham is a potter and visual artist. He gained a BA in Ceramics in the mid 1980’s at Camberwell School of Art. In the mid 1990’s he completed an MA in Fine Art at UWIC, Cardiff. Living and working in Cardigan, west Wales he is Currently Head of Ceramics Department at Carmarthen School of Art. He was commissioned to curate the special exhibition within ‘Y Lle Celf’ at the National Eisteddfod of Wales 2014 in Llanelli.

In 2009 Peter’s creative practice shifted from creating sculptures, interventions and site-specific installations to making utilitarian objects. This self-imposed creative challenge frames his current creative practice.

Ideas are drawn from and about the phenomenology of everyday objects and the museum artefact. Inspiration is often driven by journeys on foot through rural landscapes. Although Peter acknowledges the cultural distinctions between fine art, design and craft, his work often sits between these cultural traditions.

“I am fascinated by the meaning, function and value of fine art, design and hand crafted objects. Objects gather worlds around them and the context they are temporarily anchored too are equally fascinating. In essence I am a maker, and the objects and pots I make are the creative language I use”

We’re big fans of Peter’s Pinterest page…fascinating objects and beautiful things.
