Make your own clay paint

Join Debbie Rees of VegetableAgenda and learn how to make quick and simple clay paints for use in the home and creative projects. Sustainable, economical and lovely to use. Take some home with you and try out the paints in a collaborative work in the gallery. Debbie is an artist, grower and eco-builder.

Make your own charcoal

Thursday 22 February 2018 11am – 3pm

Come and learn about charcoal making, both small and large scale, and make your own to take home. You’ll have the opportunity to explore and draw within the National Botanic Gardens wider estate and learn about the restoration of its picturesque grade 2 listed landscape. Free entry to gardens included.

Making inks from nature – Gallery Talk

Saturday 3 March 2018 11am – 12pm

Catherine Lewis is a visual artist and lecturer in printed textiles and surface pattern design. She is the director of ColourField studio natural print and dye company where she has developed her own natural dyeing and printmaking processes.

This talk will cover the history of botanic ink making as well as explaining many of the fascinating techniques and materials involved.

Make and draw with your own plant inks – Workshop

Saturday 3 March 2018  2 – 5pm



This workshop for adults will look at making botanic inks from plants and will include making drawing tools using foraged natural materials, making and drawing with inks, using flowers and berries to make beautiful marks onto cloth and paper and making your own sample book.
