Back Wall Series: Louise Young

Louise Young is the latest in our series of Welsh artists featured as part of our Back Wall Series in the gallery shop.

Louise spent her childhood in Galloway, Scotland, her early teens near Nottingham, and at eighteen came to study art in Wales where she married, brought up her family, and still lives. After working mainly in fashion she came back to fine art to study for the diploma in Botanical painting in 2004-6 at the English Gardening School in the Chelsea Physic Garden, London.

Her watercolour paintings on vellum and paper are of botanical subjects and found natural objects. Since 2008 she has exhibited with the group ‘Amicus Botanicus’ in London and elsewhere. She also exhibits regularly in Wales and further afield. Louise has work in private collections in the UK and America and in the permanent collection of contemporary Welsh Art at MOMA Wales, Machynlleth.

Since the beginning of 2018 Louise has been  Visiting-Artist at FernVerrow biodynamic farm. The farm is nestled at the foot of the Black Mountains on the border of Wales and England. There she has produced a series of paintings which celebrate the FernVerrow’s beautiful vegetable produce throughout the year. The farm owner Jane Scotter wanted to show how the seasons affect what she grows. The resulting collection of 13 paintings,  some of which are shown here, represent a calendar year of growth.

All work is for sale. Collectorplan (interest free purchase scheme) is available.
