My Favourite Chair: Jordan

To run alongside our exhibition ‘Chair/Cadair’ in the main gallery we are exhibiting our visitor’s favourite chairs and the stories and memories they hold in the gallery foyer.

This bench was made by Jordan Cannon, a first year student at Plas Dwbl College. Plas Dwbl (Ruskin Mill Trust) is a specialist college for young adults with complex learning needs.

It’s made from a single ash branch which Jordan felled using hand tools (see the saw marks on the end of the seat). The whole bench, made from one log, is created using traditional tools and methods guided by Green Woodwork Tutor Rhys Townsend.

Jordan says “This is a two person chair, for me it meant that someone could sit with me and I would not feel so alone”.
