Makers Market Enterprise Project

Inspired by our Makers Market exhibition this term’s education project at the gallery focused on enterprise skills. Students from Pembrokeshire College, Ysgol Brynteg and Rhydygors Speical School visited the gallery tasked with the challenge of coming up with a great idea and taking it all the way from production to market. Each group visited the Makers Market exhibition to see how artists and designers finish and present their work for sale. From the elegantly designed chocolate bars to luxury wool socks, beutifully hand thrown ceramics to scarves and jumpers knitted in Wales the makers in this exhibition inspired our learners to consider how to entice buyers by making useful, original and beautifully hand-made things. In the gallery’s studio space each group took part in a creative workshop to develop their own products. Pembrokeshire college students learned bookbinding, Ysgol Brynteg made over 50 woven stars as christmas tree decorations and Rhydygors pupils decorated tote bags and used spot welding to create tree decorations in wire. This was a fun and creative way to approach enterprise as a curicullum subject, showing the principles of enterprise in practice; the application of numeracy skills, market research, creativity, presentation and display. We look forward to hearing how their products sold at their school markets and fayres in the new year!
